Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ: FAQ

What is authenticity?

Being connected to ourselves thus, knowing how we feel and how to act on those feelings appropriately. This means making decisions and choices that are best for us without feeling guilty about or afraid of what will come of it. Authenticity is taking full responsibility for your life and allowing others to do the same with theirs.

Why acquire authenticity?

Having the emotional skills to be authentic leads to better relationships with friends, co-workers, partners, and children. It will allow you to be better able to maintain health and well being, deal with life's ups and downs, and achieve your dreams.

Why do we struggle with Authenticity?

As children we needed to be taken care of by others to get our fundamental needs (food, shelter, etc.) met. We learn that being authentic can threaten these relationships, as it at times caused our care givers to react negatively in response. We get the wrong idea that being ourselves means risking not getting certain needs met. As a result, we suppress ourselves and loose the connection to our authenticity. Reconnection needs to happen so we can learn it is safe to be who we are.

Why is in person done with a walk?

Research shows that simply spending 2 hours a week outdoors results in reduced anxiety, depression, high blood pressure and diabetes. I have also found in my own experience that nature is the greatest teacher there is on how to just be authentic, fully and unquestioning. If it rains, we will still meet outside and will be under a roofed pavilion.

Is this Therapy?

No. This is more of a  sociable personal training program. As we are walking and/or talking certain emotions or past hurts may come up. These can be dealt with as they come up in the present moment but any further introspection into these matters should be done with a trained therapist.
